Today, November 27, 2012 is the first ever, Giving Tuesday. Today is an opportunity to put Black Friday and Cyber Monday behind us and focus on doing something good for those around us and across the world.
1. Give Water: Given our love for providing clean water to those in need, we had to start with water. A donation, in any amount will help provide access to clean water for someone living without. No amount is too small to make a big difference. Can’t donate? No worries. Becoming educated and raising awareness regarding the water crisis is just as effective as a monetary donation. Learn more about the crisis and how it’s currently affecting nearly 1 Billion people around the world.
2. Help Transform a Community: The Adventure Project has a wonderful opportunity to send a card to someone you love and transform a community in their honor. Create a job in Uganda, Kenya or India, or help a family in Haiti to a new stove. Find out more at The Adventure Project.
3. Donate Blood: The American Red Cross is asking for blood donation this holiday season. According to the Independent Mail, the organization’s blood supply frequently dips below ideal levels during the winter months and this year, it’s making a plea to collect 30,000 pints of blood between now and December 31. It’s as simple as signing up online with Red Cross to donate.
4. Donate time: Find a local food bank or homeless shelter where you can donate your time to help serve those in need. Want to help but short on time? Tthere is always a tremendous need for donated can goods and dry goods during this time of year. Find a local food bank near you using this handy tool courtesy of Feeding America.
Remember, Giving Tuesday doesn’t have to end today. The holidays can be a lonely time for many people. Please take the time each day to consider how you may be able to lighten a load, ease a burden, or lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. Trust us…it will be much more rewarding than fighting the crowds at your local mall.
Give back. #GivingTuesday.
